The Huye District Administration has announced new traffic regulations for road use in Huye Town ahead of the upcoming graduation ceremony for over 9,500 students from the University of Rwanda.
The ceremony is scheduled for October 17, 2025, at the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, and is expected to attract more than 20,000 people, including graduates, parents, friends, and relatives. This means visitors from different directions will be heading toward Huye.
To ensure the safety and smooth movement of people in the town without disrupting regular activities, authorities have put in place several measures. These include deploying youth volunteers and security agencies to help guide all road users within Huye Town.
According to an announcement released by the Huye District, all vehicles coming from Kigali, Nyamagabe, and Nyaruguru will be directed to Huye International Stadium and its surroundings. From there, passengers will use shuttle buses arranged by the University of Rwanda to reach the campus.
The announcement states:
n “At Huye Stadium, a protocol team will welcome guests and direct them to university-provided buses that will drop them off at the main entrance of the Huye Campus. From there, guests will proceed on foot to the University Stadium, where the graduation ceremony will take place.”
After the ceremony, the same buses will transport guests from the university entrance back to Huye International Stadium, where they will continue their journey home.
Visitors coming from the Rango–Tumba–Mukoni route have also been instructed to park their vehicles at Mukoni and continue to the campus on foot, following designated routes that will be clearly marked.
The announcement also includes guidance for residents of Huye Town to help them carry out their daily activities without disruption. Those traveling from Mukura–Rango–Tumba should use the Mukoni–Cyarwa–Rwasave–Kabutare–Mère du Verbe road to reach the city center and Huye Bus Station.
Meanwhile, people coming from Matyazo and Ngoma areas and heading to the city are advised to use the Ngoma–Cemetery–Rwabayanga–City Center road, or take the Ngoma Memorial–Karubanda–Hotel Galileo–Bus Station route to access other national destinations.
Authorities have reminded the public that no vehicle is allowed to enter the University premises unless granted special permission.
Preparations also include encouraging private businesses to get ready to receive visitors seeking various services, particularly food, beverages, and accommodation.
The Huye District noted that during the 2024 graduation ceremony, private businesses in Huye Town generated over 800 million Rwandan francs (Frw) in revenue, with flowers being the most sold item.
