Russia’s Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, has announced that his country will continue launching attacks on Ukraine with the goal of capturing additional territories.
Speaking on August 30, 2025, during a meeting at the Ministry of Defense, Gerasimov stated that Russian forces are fighting relentlessly across nearly all battlefronts.
“The assessment of Ukraine’s forces shows that during both winter and summer, the enemy has focused all its efforts on stopping our offensives, but this has cost them dearly,” he said.
He added: “As a result, Ukraine has been forced to send its best troops to heavily weakened areas to close the gaps. Today, the direction of the war is in the hands of Russian forces.”
Gerasimov further revealed that Russian strikes targeted Ukraine’s military weapon factories during both winter and summer, destroying 76 major facilities.
He concluded by saying that significant progress on the battlefield was achieved thanks to the timely delivery of advanced military equipment, missiles, ammunition, and other supplies from Russian factories.
Currently, Russia controls about 20% of Ukraine’s territory, including Crimea and much of the Donbas region, which consists of Donetsk and Luhansk.
